Efficiency is doing better that what is already being done. Below are the details and achievements of all the projects that our team has undertaken.
“Project DESI was initiated by Enactus MLNC in 2014 to improve the lives of strays while building a co-existential environment between humans and animals. DESI, in this model, stands for Duty to Empathize, Sterilize and Immunize stray dogs.”
Indian streets are home to approximately 35 million stray dogs and India accounts for the highest number of rabies cases in the world with about 20,000 people. The population of dogs is often controlled by killing as people are unaware of sterilization and immunization programs. To improve the awful situation of stray animals in India and to spread awareness, Enactus MLNC came forward with Project DESI. Under Duty to Empathize, the team works to procure food and shelter for the animals and asks people to be more empathetic and compassionate towards animals. Under Duty to Sterilize, sterilization drives are conducted to control the population of dogs and to protect them from uterine or testicular cancer. Under Duty to Immunize, vaccination drives are executed to vaccinate the dogs against different diseases especially rabies. For the sterilization drives, the dogs are picked up from the localities by the drivers and are then taken to the organizations for surgery. There the dogs are given a post-operative care for around a week and are then dropped back to the localities. To conduct the drives, project DESI collaborated with numerous freelancers who now work as drivers which facilitates them to earn a source of livelihood. They are skilled at dog catching and know a lot about animal safety. DESI also built a circuit of organizations especially with the ones people were unaware about and assisted them with better functioning. Public sterilization programs in India exist but most of them are underfunded which makes it difficult for the caretakers to bear the full price. Project DESI provides the sterilization program to the caretakers at a minimalist price along with furnishing a particular percentage of the total amount.

“Since 2014, Enactus Motilal Nehru College has been working on the sole objective of making the lives of stray dogs better, who live in the most deplorable conditions in India. The Indian dogs, whom people often call as stray, jungli and bad breed dogs, are looked down upon and hated. They are considered inferior to the foreign breed dogs. To kill this myth and to give them a better life with good health, respect and honour, we initiated Project Parivartan, to bring about a parivartan (change) in the lives of the strays.
We have also tried to bring a change in the lives of a community of underprivileged women living in Sanjay Gandhi Camp, Chanakyapuri; through our BeDesi product line, containing handmade collars, leashes and sweaters. A part of the revenue generated from sales goes to these women who manufacture our products and a part goes to the animal welfare NGOs with whom we collaborate to conduct sterilisation and vaccination drives of stray dogs.”
The beneficiaries of Project Parivartan, the ladies from different NGOs in Chanakyapuri, are first trained to prepare our products. Secondly, the raw material is procured from the market and then stitching of the products is initiated with the help of these ladies and a tailor appointed by us. Further, we move onto the sales and promotion of our products to generate revenue. The revenue generated is divided into three proportions – the first 40% is for the manufacturers, the next 40% is kept for the betterment of Project Parivartan and the remaining 20% is donated to the animal welfare organizations to conduct sterilization and vaccination drives.

“An initiative that focuses on preventing open defecation and promoting healthy sanitation habits amongst children especially in the rural areas by providing them access to reusable cloth diapers at reasonable prices along with discouraging the use of non-biodegradable diapers.”
Nearly 98% of the infants in India do not have access to diapers. Consequently, infants defecate in the open areas which leads to several health risks amongst them and their families. Disposable or non-biodegradable diapers that are unsafe for the child’s skin, have a blemishing impact on the monthly budget of rural families and are a major threat to the environment.
Project Sneh meets with these problems by providing reusable cloth diapers that are eco-friendly as well as economical. The project aims at creating awareness amongst the community on health and hygiene so that they can adapt basic sanitation habits. These cloth diapers are made by underprivileged women from natural fabrics that are safe for a baby’s gentle skin. While ensuring the safety of the children and environment, the project also directs on promoting women employment.

” An initiative that focuses on providing efficient and upcycled solar lighting solutions with its products to combat climate change by promoting sustainable development to fabricate future-ready cities. These products are economical as well as eco-friendly and are powered by renewable energy to reduce greenhouse gas emissions.”
Project Prabhaअक्षय is a vertically merged business model which centralizes two of Enactus MLNC’s upcycled energy-efficient entrepreneurial ventures.
Most of the Indian cities are predominantly powered by electrical grids where 66% of electricity is generated from fossil fuels like coal, oil etc. The combustion of these fuels increases pollution, CO2 levels in the air and global warming.
The project focuses on providing smart solar lighting products as a solution that prohibits the use of fossil fuels and reduces greenhouse gas emissions. These products are made from upcycled plastic. Prabhaअक्षय aims to bring about climate change by collaborating with various innovative industries to provide these products at nominal prices. It empowers cities to become healthy and sustainably smart, using its two entrepreneurial ventures:
Solar Lamps – Solar Lamp is an upcycled simple product with the application of solar photovoltaic technology, which has found good acceptance in domestic regions especially where there is an irregular and scarce power supply.
Solar Street Lights – Smart Solar Street Light system is designed for outdoor application in un-electrified remote areas. This system is provided with battery storage backup that is sufficient to operate the light for 10-11 hours daily. It provides alternative solar energy solutions for domestic, industrial and commercial establishments. However, the commencement lineup for the same will be initiated via college campuses, further extended to schools, RWAs, parking spaces, etc. to mitigate the energy problems.
Prabhaअक्षय fits perfectly in the landscape of cities of the future. These lighting solutions counteract the future increase in energy demand by offering clean and sustainable Solar LED light sources. This would turn out to be a big step in making life on land both greener and smarter.
